This workshop is designed to equip educators with the essential tools and strategies to integrate the principles of the How Does Learning Happen (HDLH) framework into childcare programs, specifically focusing on the inclusion of Black children. Participants will learn how to integrate culturally responsive programming and address the unique experiences of Black children within the educational system. Through practical activities, participants will gain valuable insights and resources to create inclusive and culturally empowering learning environments for all children.

Session Objective

  • Review the How Does Learning Happen (HDLH) framework and its relevance to early childhood education, particularly in relation to the inclusion of Black children.
  • Explore strategies for developing culturally responsive programming that honours the cultural backgrounds, identities, and experiences of Black children, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
  • Identify and analyze the systemic challenges and biases that impact the learning experiences of Black children within the educational system, and develop practical approaches to address these barriers effectively
