Behave Yourself is a workshop that is interactive, informative and engaging. It combines the scientific theory of behaviour with a realistic understanding about every day relationships in a child care setting. Staff will go back to their work life with a number of tools to address behaviour.

Session One will cover:

  • What is behaviour?

  • Selecting and defining a target behaviour that you hope to understand and address in your everyday work.

  • Understanding why behaviours happen?

  • Learning how to document the ABC’s of your target behaviour.

Through group activities, informal discussion, and reflection on your personal work environment, staff will be encouraged to look at behaviour in a new way. When we know that when kids ‘behave’, they are trying to tell us something, we can move forward in creating a positive and supportive environment for everyone.

Session Objective

Navigating children’s behaviours can be confusing, frustrating and time consuming. This two part workshop focuses on the skills needed for staff in a child care setting to understand why behaviours happen, how to prevent interfering behaviours and how to preserve the pro-social ones.

Session One will cover defining behaviours, and choosing a target behaviour to address in your workplace. You will be required to take data, and return to Session Two prepared to analyse the data and create a plan to address the target behaviour.
