Description
This workshop focuses on establishing responsive relationships with student educators as part of a learning community. We will explore the benefits of mentorship for both mentors and mentees, encouraging reflective practice and expanding pedagogical possibilities.
Session Objective
- Recognize the importance of mentorship and field placement in Early Childhood Education
- Identify important characteristics of a mentor
- Build responsive mentoring relationships that value empathy and support
- Explore the principles of mentoring in learning focused relationships
- Examine the phases of a mentoring relationship
- Analyze the teaching and learning process in field placement mentoring
- Recognize how culture, neurodivergence, language and personal challenges impact student learning
- Explore/share strategies for mentoring, coaching and guiding students in their field placements
- Examine the benefits of mentorship for both mentee and mentor
- Reflect on current mentoring practice and develop a plan to enhance mentoring in your professional practice.
