Description

This workshop focuses on establishing responsive relationships with student educators as part of a learning community. We will explore the benefits of mentorship for both mentors and mentees, encouraging reflective practice and expanding pedagogical possibilities.  

Session Objective

  • Recognize the importance of mentorship and field placement in Early Childhood Education
  • Identify important characteristics of a mentor
  • Build responsive mentoring relationships that value empathy and support
  • Explore the principles of mentoring in learning focused relationships
  • Examine the phases of a mentoring relationship
  • Analyze the teaching and learning process in field placement mentoring
  • Recognize how culture, neurodivergence, language and personal challenges impact student learning
  • Explore/share strategies for mentoring, coaching and guiding students in their field placements
  • Examine the benefits of mentorship for both mentee and mentor
  • Reflect on current mentoring practice and develop a plan to enhance mentoring in your professional practice.
