Description

Join Humber Arboretum education staff for an interactive and conversational session on connecting school age children (6-12) to nature. This can be an intimidating and difficult age group for some educators. Get ideas for boosting engagement and managing some difficult behaviour. Experienced staff will share their stories and focus the session on areas that participants highlight.

Please note: This will be an in-person workshop on the land at the Humber Arboretum. The workshop will take place rain or shine, but we do have an indoor backup space in case of severe weather. There are also washrooms on site.

Please bring:

  • reuseable water bottle
  • sturdy footwear (the ground may be wet and/or muddy)
  • clothing you don't mind getting dirty
  • enough layers of clothing to stay warm in the weather conditions
  • raincoats are better than umbrellas
  • bring something to take notes, if you want

Session Objective

  • Get ideas for games and activities that work well and engage older children
  • Learn the difference between being a leader and a friend
  • Come away with practical tips that you will be able to put into action

Standards of practice

  • Caring and Responsive Relationships
  • Safety, Health, and Well-Being in the Learning Environment
  • Professionalism and Leadership
