This year Every Child Belongs Conference focuses on the more in-depth understanding of Trauma. Through shared stories, research and experiences you will learn how trauma affects the life of people. The event will help you to broaden your knowledge and perspectives on various forms of trauma, a process of healing and value of the connections. You will be provided with an opportunity to build on your strategy-based practice to enhance support for children and families with traumatic histories. The Indigenous experimental learning on balance of life will encourage you to reflect on the environment and belief systems in relationship to your mental and spiritual wellness.

Theo has been awarded the Canadian Humanitarian Award, The Queen’s Jubilee Medallion, he is an Honorary Chief and recipient of the Aboriginal Indspire Award. In 2014 Theo was awarded with an honorary doctorate in Science from University of Guelph-Humber for outstanding contributions to the Mental Health of Canadians. Most recently Theo was bestowed with a second honorary doctorate in Laws from Brandon University in recognition for his contributions combating child sexual abuse and for his outstanding efforts to promote healing and recovery.Theo pursues excellence in all areas of his life.

Allison Jackson, Ph.D., is Chief Executive Officer of Integration Solutions, Inc., where she provides trauma and resilience-informed care consultation to human service and healthcare organizations invested in the lives of ‘at-promise’ children, families, and adults impacted by emotional trauma. She is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Sex Offender Practitioner in the State of Virginia, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the District of Columbia, and a Certified Facilitator for Dr. Brené Brown’s Daring WayTM and Dare To LeadTM Curriculums.
Dr. Jackson is a person of lived experience as well as a professional who has provided leadership development services via Behavioral Health, Education, Child Welfare, and Criminal Justice systems for over 25 years. In addition, she has provided outpatient therapeutic services for military service men and women and their families. Her clinical practice and research have focused on advancing effective trauma-informed treatment practices for persons who experience significant conduct related behavior problems. Dr. Jackson previously worked for an international healthcare organization where she was National Vice President of Clinical Operations and National Trauma-Informed Service Line Leader. Partnering with the National Council of Behavioral HealthCare, she co-led 17 National Teams through the Council’s Trauma- Informed Learning Collaborative. Dr. Jackson received her Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Presenter - Dr. Sheri Madigan
Dr. Madigan is an Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. Her research is primarily focused on understanding how social stressors and adversities can influence children’s development. She is also interested in understanding why some mothers and children show resilience to these stressors and adversities while others remain vulnerable. Her work has been widely covered in the media, including The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Time Magazine, BBC, The Guardian, CNN, and CBC. She is the child development expert for CTV Morning Live Calgary, providing monthly segments on topics related to parenting and child development.
Presenter - Janine Lawdford
Janine is a senior social worker and psychotherapist with a specific interest and expertise in the area of trauma. She has extensive experience working with adults, children, youth and their families. Janine worked at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre now the Sick Children’s Centre for Community Mental Health, over fifteen years, as a therapist, trainee supervisor and instructor. She created and led both a trauma seminar and a trauma-focused assessment and treatment team. In her private practice, she offers psychotherapy and specialized training as well as consultation to the Tele-Link Mental Health program at the Hospital for Sick Children and Connected North, in the area of trauma. Janine has offered training and consultation to organizations and schools throughout Ontario and the Northern Territories in addition having presented at international conferences. She also works in the field of high-conflict divorce as a Clinical Investigator for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer. In addition to her private practice, Janine currently works part- time as a school social worker for the Toronto District School Board.
Bear Standing Tall is a Nehiyaw from Onion Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan, treaty 6 territory. He is the founder of Bear Standing Tall Corporate Training of Toronto. His work includes consulting, educating, training, ambassador for the Gord Downie Chaine Wenjack fund and volunteering for Kairos Canada. His work creates a bridge between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Allies through Indigenous Cultural Sensitivity Training. At Brandon University, MB, he completed a Bachelor of First Nations and Aboriginal Counselling Degree & is certified with four levels of medicine wheel counsellor training & three levels of medicine wheel facilitator training. He is also a sun dancer, pipe carrier, lodge keeper, singer, drummer and leads traditional ceremonies. He genuinely loves his work sharing authentic Indigenous knowledge that creates healing, wellness & reconciliation for Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies including newcomers to Canada.
